Wisdom is described as a hidden treasure that we should seek out. The fear of the Lord is the very beginning of wisdom. The fear of the Lord is a healthy respect or reverence for God. When you have a respect for Him you are drawn in by the hidden treasure of wisdom. An interesting thing happens when you are seeking for something, you usually find other things along the way.
Have you ever been looking for something and couldn’t find it? While looking for the birth certificate you find other important paperwork. Maybe you are looking for that certain tool that you rarely use and while looking for it you finally find another item that you just went to buy because you couldn’t find the one you already own. The journey towards wisdom is much the same.
While you are seeking wisdom you can find other wonderful gifts. You will find the knowledge of God. Verse 6 says that the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
In verse 7 it describes how he lays up sound wisdom for the righteous and that he is a buckler to the the one who walks uprightly.
A Buckler is defined as : a small round shield held by a handle at arm’s length. b : a shield worn on the left arm 2: one that shields and protects
It sounds to me like wisdom could be used in spiritual warfare. It will shield you from from the attack of your enemy on your journey to every good path.
Discretion and understanding are two more weapons to preserve and keep you. Keep you from what? To deliver you from the evil men that are walk in disobedience. These men leave everything that is good and right in life and walk into darkness.
Another thing that you can be spared from is a strange woman. There are other names that come to my mind, but we will stick to strange woman here. It is what the Bible calls her. This “woman” is not a woman of virtue. In fact she, like the evil man leaves the things she was taught as a child and decides to drift ever farther into the darkness of death. Everyone that finds themselves under the spell of this woman do not come out alive. Spiritually they die. Often times their marriages die. She is out to recruit anybody she can to enter into the hell she calls her life.
The hope is found by walking in the paths of those that are good examples to us. Verse 21 states that the upright will dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it. This land is talking about the presence and blessings of God. In the next verse the wicked are warned that they will be cut off and rooted out. The best life is living for The Living God.
Things will never be perfect in this world no matter how hard you try. Life is better without question when you strive to give yourself to God. By surrendering to Him and seeking after wisdom many other blessings will come your way.
